#WomenEd: Heart-to-Heart Series - Investigating Intersectionality

Description

Investigating Intersectionality

What is intersectionality and why is it important for international educators?

This series of ECIS and WomenEd Heart-to-Heart Conversations focus on topics that will help elevate women in international education.

Full Description

Join Angeline Aow (WomenEdDE) and Kyra Kellawan (WomenEdESP) as they host another #HearttoHeart event about intersecting identities and how overlapping social identities may create advantages and disadvantages for both educator professionals and the students under their care.

Featuring Dr. Sadie Hollins, Head of Sixth Form at Lanna International School, & Tricia Friedman of Be A Better Ally, we will be asking how both the adults and children in our institutions continue to develop their identities and sense of belonging. Our guests will share their diverse perspectives about how intersecting identities may be both empowering and oppressing. We will also share stories and strategies that address intersectionality as a fact, right and resource to spark your own advocacy and actions.

Big Ideas

  • Intersectionality - what it is and what it isn’t
  • Sex, Gender and Sexuality - educate me about the difference
  • Being a woman in leadership and also being a __ - how does this intersectionality impact double-discrimination?
  • Are heteronormative views of Women in Leadership holding a cross-section of leaders back?
  • Examples of actionable best practice

This series of ECIS and WomenEd Heart-to-Heart Conversations focus on topics that will help elevate women in international education. Survey data has shown significant gender gaps in educational leadership positions and significant gender based pay gaps. To accelerate systemic change, this international series of Heart-to-Heart Conversations seeks to both inform and ignite courageous dialogue.
